the ‘dragons’ part of dnd got me interested originally, but it was the fan creations like taz and critical role that really drew me in and kept me around

what a god awful decision

So, what is the OGL and why are DnD creators thoroughly screwed?

Tumblr has not been doing a great job at talking about this, but:

With OneDnD, Wizards of the Coast has decided to update the Open Game License (OGL). Said license is what allowed people to create homebrew DnD content and sell it, and even larger companies to use certain sorts of content. Pathfinder, for example, is built on said OGL. This also allows streamers and artists to exist and benefit from said content.

With OneDnD (sometimes called “dnd 6e”), WOTC wants to create a much more restrictive OGL, which will, amongst other things:

Make WOTC take a cut for any DnD-related work (according to Kickstarter, a whole 25% of the benefits)

Let WOTC cancel any project related to DnD up to their discretion

Let WOTC take ANY content made based on their system, and re-sell it without crediting you, or giving you a single cent

And most importantly, revoke the old OGL, which will harm any company or game system that used it as a base, such as Pathfinder. And it means they GET ownership over any homebrew content you may have done for 5e in the past!

It’s important to note that OGLs are supposedly irrevocable. They were planning to use it for OneDnD initially, but they want to apply it retroactively to 5e, somehow. Which is illegal, but lawyers have mentioned there’s a chance they may get away with it given the wording.

This means that anything you make based on DnD (A homebrew item? A character drawing? Even music, according to them?), can get taken and used as they deem appropiate.

These news come from a leak of the OGL, which have been confirmed by multiple reputable sources (including Kickstarter, which has confirmed that WOTC already talked with them about this), and was planned to be released next week.

So, what can we do?

Speak against it. Share the word. Reblog this post. Let people know. Tumblr hasn’t been talking much about this matter, but it’s VERY important to let people know about what is WOTC bringing. 

Boycott them. Do not buy their products. Do not buy games with their IP. Do not watch their movie. CANCEL your DnD Beyond subscription. (Btw, they ARE planning to release more subscription services too!). They do not care about the community, but they care about the money. Make sure to speak through it. 

And maybe consider other TTRPG systems for the time being, Pathfinder’s Paizo has been much nicer to the community, their workers are unionized and are far more healthy overall

I know you probably get these asks a lot, but I've really been trying to try drawing comic pages. I really admire how free and flowing your style is! I've seen your little tutorials and tips and idk what's wrong but I just can't seem to wrap my head around panel composition? Like I do wonderful painting comps, but I can't seem to break out. Do you have any resources or help to get started?

really consider it. if you're gonna bother to yap in my notes, at least try to engage with this question in good faith. imagine opening up the news, and you see that a bomb was dropped on this city, and then the bombs never stop. imagine you had a friend there. imagine you'd had a trip planned to meet them and see the sights. imagine every museum, every historical monument, every theatre, every university destroyed. imagine that one day, you lived in a world where this city existed, and the next, it has completely ceased to be. it's effectively been pompeii-ed out of our world entirely. there is no longer a big ben, or a parthenon, or a colosseum, or what have you. there is no longer that foreign musician you loved from this city. there are no longer sweet old grannies to share old family recipes from this part of the world. there is no longer the online friend you wanted to visit. there is no longer your vacation plans.

which city has to completely cease to exist before you even consider that this system isn't ever going to work?

if you are still planning to vote for biden, then either a) biden could drop a nuke on any city on earth and it wouldn't be a dealbreaker for you, or b) in your mind, people and places are divided into ones that are acceptable to destroy and ones that are not. or at least, there are ones that are more acceptable to destroy than others.

Honestly after all of that new information all I am thinking is that Noah is boring in a way that aspires to Sam, the Goodwin of Alice's generation seems like an asshole type of guy just from the way he walked into that scene, and maybe Casey Goodwin just. is misgendered at home. hard to say!

Let me tell you my problem with the Samadhi Fire.

So we're given a toddler who understandably throws tantrums and is emotional a lot.

Much like any other toddler.

But this really fucking strong fire is thrown into the mix.

Instead of trying to find ways to teach him how to be calm and control his fire better, they try to control him(as said by PIF, even their combined might could not control him) eventually they decide that they should take it away from him

Now remember what Red Son told Mei in the final battle? That she doesn't wield the fire, she IS the fire

So basically, they locked parts of this kid into rings.

Also the amazing parenting of DBK makes an appearance: he kept one of the rings.

Since he got a mountain on top of him he wasn't around that much, but he didn't know that would happen, so he fully intended to keep a part of his son on his person at all times, as a constant reminder to the kid that yeah that was ripped from him.

And he didn't even get it back???

I love Mei and i fully support her girbossing around, but it would have been such an amazing move towards Red Son's inevitable redemption arc if he was the one to use the Samadhi Fire in the final battle.

(His whole significance in JTTW was because of the Samadhi Fire, so it feels to me like this way of dealing with it was just an excuse to hint toward dragonfruit(which i feel is forced, but i explained that a bit more in another post))

This is not a cause for celebration, this is a warning.

Okay, just curious if I'm alone on this—I kinda don't like the new TARDIS interior. Like, I get that it harkens back to the older designs (yes, including the round things), but it just feels... empty. There's so much blank space.

And take this from a theydy whose favorite interiors are the 8th Doctor’s and the 11th’s first one. I do love that it’s mostly accessible—though some of those ramps to the higher doors definitely aren’t—and from a lighting perspective, it looks fun. But it just... I don’t know, doesn’t feel lived in.

I loved that the 9th/10th Doctor’s chair thing had holes and was slowly losing its stuffing—it made the space feel used. The 1st Doctor had old-timey chairs and random furniture cluttering the space, clashing beautifully with the ship’s sci-fi aesthetic. The 12th added bookcases and chalkboards, making the space feel like a mad scientist’s study, full of ideas and chaos. And the 8th Doctor’s TARDIS? Absolute charm. It had that warm, gothic library-meets-Victorian-parlor aesthetic—cozy, dramatic, and just oozing with personality. It felt like a place where stories happened, not just where adventures started.

And I mean, the 15th added a jukebox, which is something, but I just wish the interior had more personality, more pizazz, you know? Especially since so much of his wardrobe blends old aesthetics with new. A lot of his looks feel inspired by the ‘60s, so why not lean into that in the TARDIS design? Imagine some of that weird, old-timey ‘60s furniture scattered around—those funky, space-age egg chairs, bold sculptural coffee tables, or even a mod-style couch. A black-and-white checkerboard floor or a weird geometric rug somewhere would add so much to the vibe. It wouldn’t just match him, it would make the space feel intentional, like the TARDIS is reflecting his era-blending energy instead of just being a big, empty sci-fi room. But even if they did all that, it wouldn’t suddenly make this my favorite TARDIS design—I mean, the 8th Doctor’s is right there. But it would make the space feel more distinct, more like an extension of the Doctor himself. A more unique, character-driven design wouldn’t just make the TARDIS visually interesting, it would enhance the storytelling. The TARDIS isn’t just a backdrop; it’s a reflection of who the Doctor is in that era. Giving it more personality would make the 15th Doctor’s run feel more his, rather than just another iteration of a familiar aesthetic. It would make the ship feel lived in.
