I have a theory that Talvas must have had really strict parents that would give him love on the condition he performed well.
Growing in such a family he became demanding towards himself in the later life. Only someone who never knew a warm place in the childhood would consider that living in Tel Mithryn is "not bad".
I've made this illustration to give vent to my hype over @greyborn2's fanfic - about the early history of Tel Mithryn and... goblins.
Check this fragment out:
As such places generally were, the slave markets of Dagon Fel were a sad little affair. Only the Dres tried to hide the misery places like that held. With mixed success. Mostly this one wasnāt even run by distinguished traders; it was just unfortunates trying to sell themselves or a family member off for some hope of escaping this ashen rock. Quality was an assurance that could not be relied upon without knowing what to look for. It took Neloth a good hour of questioning, and shooing away hopefuls, before he even started to find some that knew the first thing about brewing tea. Even fewer seemed to have the skill⦠the basic decencies and decorum⦠he expected of a potential steward.
Isn't it the Dunmer literature in its purest form? Here's the entire work, have fun reading as I did :D
I know that nobody asked, but here's some Telvanni lore for all the foodies.
Before you begin this culinary journey, check out this post about ash yams it's essential.
-----------------------------
Telvanni Cuisine
Itās obvious that Telvanni have an extensive knowledge of fungi.Ā After all, they live in huge mushrooms and collect and plant numerous species from all across the Tamriel to use them in their potions. It goes without saying that their cuisine is also quite fungal. The commonfolk at Telvanni settlements as most of the Dunmer source their protein both from fungi* and insect meat. But Telvanni nobles love nurturing peculiar worldviews and traditions that differentiate them from other races - or even other Dunmer. One of them is their distaste for anything that doesnāt grow in soil. They frown upon hunter traditions of Ashlanders and stock-raising of house Redoran and regard them as āprimitiveā in contrast to the delicate art of growing fungi. The alchemy ingredients are an obvious exception from this rule, but in general as their occupations donāt usually include menial work, their light and low-calorie cuisine perfectly matches their lifestyle. This resulted in traditional cuisine of the nobility being solely plant-, or more specifically, mushroom-based**, that contrasts sharply with the cuisine of Skyrim that is rich in venison and other animal-based foods***. Noble Telvanni shun debilitating ingredients such as alcohol and moon sugar in their everyday cuisine, as keeping their minds sharp is their main priority. In order to get an indulgent sweet taste marshmerrow is used instead. Telvanni rarely import vast quantities of vegetables from other provinces as house Hlaalu does. They use commonly grown foods like saltrice, ash yams or mushrooms as the base ingredients of the dishes. In some aspects they prefer to stick to the Dunmer traditions. The nobles, though, indulge themselves in expensive imported berries - not only because of their magic-enhancing abilities but also because of their extravagant taste. As the Telvanni ranks feature numerous alchemists the import of alchemical ingredients is obviously very common. Telvanni chefs gradually incorporated some of the exotic spices into traditional cuisine. Especially valued are the most characterful of them that fancy up the bland taste of mushrooms, such as juniper, ginseng or garlic****. * In real life mushrooms are a rather poor source of protein compared to legumes like beans and lentil. But since there are no legumes in TES universe (at least as far as I know) let's suppose there are some protein-rich mushrooms Telvanni can plant. ** Itās also worth mentioning that Iām a Telvanni-fixated vegan ass myself so thatās a more probable reason why I made my beloved house also vegan xD *** A lovely example of that contrast you can encounter in @thana-topsy ās fanfic āBreathing Waterā. This would nicely explain Nelothās preference for apple cabbage stew. **** This recipe for example resembles Telvanni cuisine, it was one of the inspirations from my imaginary dishes above.
Above Iāve come up with some examples of what noble Telvanni would eat on a daily basis.
Thanks for reading that and take care :3
Every master Telvanni wizard has to have a doormat to push around a steward take care of their business while they do all the fun stuff the research.

Plz give me some feedback on her facial features - I'm in two minds abt her. On the one hand I feel like she's got very Oblivion Bosmer features, on the other she might look like a wrinkled baby with a sour grimace so that no one ever would empathize with her.
Remember my past posts with presumably "Neloth and his mom"? (all of them pictured below)
Well, his how-would-I-imagine-his-mom was only on the last of the three pics. The previous ones - well, I had a Telvanni OC for years that I was afraid to show to the world š (an oc that would be a Neloth's gf and would have a cute baldie child with him).

Especially that I live in this Tesblr rabbithole of artists that publish on daily basis their OC with their favourite blorbos. This is a really baseless fear but what was I most afraid of was being laughed at (bc ofc your own OC means a world to you and you would'nt like to hear that they are "stupid"). That's why I such a "coming out" out of thisš .

You will probably not find a friendlier place out on the Internet than Tesblr to share your fantasy content (at least I hope that is true xD).

This character sheet probably wouldn't exist if it wasn't for @thana-topsy 's wonderful art depicting a certain Dunmer wizard and the fanfic "Breathing Water".
Thanks :D
A bit too late to submit for @nerevar-quote-and-star pin-up challenge but I loved the prompt ideas sm that I couldn't resist painting spellcrafting Ildari :3

If you want wizards to be nice to you - better don't interrupt their teabreaks :3

I won't be posting much now bc I'm learning how to use more than 3 brushes in one drawing lololol.
Have this sample for now :3
This journey will be long and tedious...
Do you think that a reading campaign posters would be more successfull if they featured cute baby Telvanni wizards?š„ŗ

Mer kids are my obsession at this point - expect more of them :3
A highborn Telvanni mistress and her smol baby. She looks a bit evil and nasty lol but appartently the sight of her very own child melts her heart. š„ŗ

You may like baby Yoda or even baby Rick but I prefer baby Neloth :3
Well, not rly so baby.
I do love speculating what kind of kind of environment and ppl could have created such an ideal a jerk.
I believe that his mother was a renegade cave necromancer on Vvardenfell, maybe of an Ashlander origin. She was probably so disagreeable that she dumped his father and brought up her son on her own. She flooded her son with admiration and managed to pass down her ambitions onto her child. Growing with no father figure, there was no one in his early childhood to burst the bubble of Neloth's self-absorbed delusions... that's how Neloth became Neloth :3
Do you have any theories about the Neloth's past yourself?
Just another misty morning in Morrowind... and one of the last days in the life of a certain cliffracer :)
_______
Hmmm... why does my default random dunmer guy look suspiciously Neloth-y? Maybe that's because he occupies 10% of my head, of the overall 50% reserved for the Dunmer.
_______
I'm beginning to like the loose style of drawing environments :)
"HOW do you imagine yourself surviving as a House Telvanni Wizard???!!! You don't even know THE BASICS!!!!"
(Talvas, in his head: "Yes, yes. I'm not gonna survive at all.")
"Drip! Drip!" - the teardrops on the paper.

I've promised you Talvas crying over books... and here he is :)
Yes, I vent through drawing Talvas, move along.
There are some days in winter when you just need to leave your dignity aside - and protect your sensitive ears and bald head by all means possible.
He's prepared to kill anyone that dares to laugh at him.

Autumn is coming, graveyards are becoming increasingly interesting places to study.
Evening falls. The atmosphere would be almost idyllic if it wasn't for the stench of a decomposing cat.

My Dunmer kiddo in a scarf doing some shady things again :)
Theoretically this is my OC, but gives very "Neloth" vibes (I guess I need to give him more distinctive features in the future).
So go on, you can think this is young Neloth.
Even master Telvanni wizards need tea breaks.
I suppose the tea time is the only time when master Neloth can be sunny.

Yes, yet another wizard on a chair/armchair. I'm afraid that I have a new fetish.
Ildari... bleeding to her death - or having the sickest pleasure in her life.
______________
I love drawing her. Gore, pain, death, mental diseases and falling from grace look so... natural on her.
(+ being a Cradle of filth enjoyer, I love the aesthetics of blood-smeared witches)
Neloth... doing some Telvanni things.
Talvas probably threw up and washed out or was assigned some boring chores (apparently, Neloth seems enjoying himself so perhaps the task wasn't painful enough to involve Talvas in it).

I've sketched this while listening to "DEATH MAGICK FOR ADEPTS".

Unfortunalety, the sketch is drawn-on-paper-then-scanned so some parts are of low quality. Should experiment with a new workflow for comics.
